Carlos Alcaraz Beats Novak Djokovic To Retain Wimbledon 2024 Men's Singles Title

On July 14, the 2024 Wimbledon men's singles final, was a repeat of last year's, with 21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz defeating 37-year-old Novak Djokovic to secure the 2024 Wimbledon men's singles title. The Spain native defended his 2023 Wimbledon title with 6-2, 6-2 7-6(4).

Alcaraz said, "honestly, it’s a dream for me, winning this trophy. I did an interview when I was 11 years old and I said that my dream was to win Wimbledon so I’m repeating my dream. I want to keep going but obviously it’s a great feeling to play on this beautiful court, to lift this amazing trophy.”

After winning his first Wimbledon title in 2023 against seven-time champion Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz fell to the ground in disbelief after what he had achieved. Perhaps most notably, by winning the French Open and Wimbledon in the same season, Alcaraz joins Djokovic, Federer and Rafael Nadal as the only men to have done it in the past 40 years. Borg and Rod Laver are the only other men to have achieved the feat in the Open era,” as per ESPN.

Alcaraz has now won two of the year’s three grand slam men’s singles titles. He said, “It is a great feeling even thinking about being the French Open winner and Wimbledon champion the same year, that few players have done it before. It’s unbelievable. I try to realize that I won Wimbledon twice and try to feel like it is the same feeling as last year.”

Meanwhile Novak Djokovic said, “last year I lost an epic five-set match where we went toe to toe. This year it was nothing like that – it was all about him. He was the dominant force on the court and deserved to win.”

In an Instagram post he said, “Every time I walk on to Centre Court, I am filled with such gratitude that I am living out my childhood dream. Thank you to my entire team, partners, family, friends and #nolefam for all of your support throughout the last few weeks. Onwards. Felicidades, @carlitosalcarazz, well deserved, my friend.”
