The Process of Creating "Peso"
The creation of "Peso" was inspired by the growing problem of discarded surgical masks ending up in landfills, lakes, seas, and oceans. Michela saw this as an opportunity to turn this waste into something functional and beautiful. To create "Peso," Michela first sorted through piles of surgical masks, selecting only the classic surgical masks made of three layers of polypropylene.
She then removed the elastic bands and metal underwire from each mask and cooked them until they dissolved into a creamy consistency. This mixture was then poured into silicone molds and left to cool for five hours. The result was a set of five gym accessories - a barbell, an AB roller wheel, a dumbbell, an earth weight, and a punching bag.
